Why Cocoa Butter is an Excellent Emollient to Help Heal the Skin After a Tattoo!

If you've already had your tattoo artist use Better Butter Care before and during the tattoo process, or used our aftercare to heal your new tattoo, then you already know how delicious the cocoa butter scent is of our Original formula!

But do you know why it helps in the healing process? We thought we'd share some of that with you, because cocoa butter isn't just for eating, it's excellent for healing skin after a tattoo as well, for several reasons:

  1. Moisture Retention: Cocoa butter is an effective emollient which means it helps to lock in moisture. Maintaining that moisture balance is crucial for healing skin, especially when it's damaged or irritated from the tattooing process.

  2. Rich in Fatty Acids: Cocoa butter contains essential fatty acids like oleic, palmitic, and stearic acid, which are nourishing for the skin and they support the repair of the skin's natural barrier effectively after tattooing.

  3. Soothing and Anti-Inflammatory: Cocoa butter has mild anti-inflammatory properties that soothe inflamed skin. This helps reduce the redness and mild discomfort from the tattooing process.

  4. Rich in Antioxidants and Non-comedogenic: Cocoa butter is generally considered safe for most skin types and doesn't clog pores. Antioxidants in cocoa butter are there to protect skin while it's healing so your artwork looks as fresh as the day you got it.

  5. Improved Skin Texture and Elasticity: Cocoa butter can help even out the texture of the skin, reducing the appearance of scarring and allowing the tattoo’s details to remain sharp and vibrant as it heals as well as maintaining skin elasticity so there's no drying or cracking during the healing process.

Better Butter Care's main ingredient is ethically sourced Maquita Cocoa Butter from Ecuador or South Africa. Combine our Original Formula with good aftercare practices like avoiding direct sunlight, keeping the tattoo clean, and not picking at scabs or peeling skin and remember that our formulas are concentrated moisture so a little goes a long way. Also, just be aware that everyone’s skin reacts differently, so it’s a good idea to patch test any product before applying it to a freshly tattooed area.
